GOP HYPOCRISY STINKS

I'm Republican, all politicians are scummers. A bunch of no good stinking scummers. Not much more to say really if you will. Scummers, whatever like that!
# 2. 4/25/12 12:32 AM by BIFF
In general, most politicians suck.

How can my new netbook not even get warm? They must have spackled the insides with some serious mojo.

Democrats (liberals) voted to elect a racist \ marxist \ Hugo Chavez wannabe \ community organizer as president of the United States who, in turn, appointed an unethical, overt racist as Attorney General. As a direct result of selling the country down the river with their vote, the United States is no longer a Nation of Law.
To say that Democrats (liberals) are just as much Americans as anybody else is just about the silliest damn thing I've ever heard.
# 5. 4/25/12 6:27 AM by Jeff - Rochester
This may seem cynical, but the purpose of any action made by any political party is first and foremost to attain or preserve power. Everything else is secondary. The 'profiles in courage' are the rare exceptions. Political Science 101
Editor's Note: and yet, as an anachronism, the oath of office is to the constitution

Right on again, Bob! County GOP legislators displaying grade school-like hypocrisy. And yes, I'm a Republican too.

Bob, Our political system no longer functions to serve the majority of America and it's citizens. Both parties have been taken over by their respective "Fringe" elements, and each party caters to those groups, while let's face it, laughing at the rubes in the middle who merely want sane and just government that actually improves the quality of life for all in America.
And now we are caught in a system that accomplishes nothing, wasting our time and our resources pushing failed agenda's that only their respective fanatics support.
It's time that WE start punishing our failed "Leaders", we need to vote out incumbents that fail to work for WE the people regardless of Party leanings, and we need to be harsh about it, not accepting excuses (The OTHER Party prevented us from accomplishing our goals being the favorite.) and whip saw the parties into and out of office in rapid succession until they GET IT, and start working together for the good of the majority of AMERICA.
We have got to force the control of the parties back into the hands of the people and away from the big buck, special interest, Lunatic Fringe groups that dictate the dysfunctional Party Politics that have made shambles of our Political, Financial, Business sectors and have brought this country to it's knee's.
Our political arena has turned EVIL, WE the people have allowed this to happen, WE the people need to take control, take it back, and turn it around.
It is going to hurt for a while, but ask yourself, is it really working out well for us now?
Editor's Note: well, as a fringe element myself, i certainly don't feel like the new york republican party gives a darn about me or those like me. they take our vote and give us the shaft. personally, i think if the fringe right actually did dictate to the republican party, the country would be a lot better off.

I've become jaded and conclude that 99.45% of all Republican politicians are corrupt. That's more corrupt than Ivory Soap is pure or Rush is right. Once again, the RNC hit me up for $100 and I told them to get lost. To fine more corruption you need to look all the way across the aisle to the Democrats.
# 10. 4/25/12 7:10 AM by Poplar Beach
I know you don't like the idea of term limits Bob, but until we clean out these dictating entrenched party bosses, hypocrisy is business as usual.
Because of the rules instituted by the old timers in both parties newcomers tow the line, or they get put in the go nowhere closet.
We have to get rid of this my way or the highway pack of career politicians. They run Washington, they run Albany and they will run any newbie off who threatens their power.
But with the rules (their rules) in place now it will be almost impossible for a new honest politician to put forth a term limits bill!!
This is more than hypocrisy, it is the subjugation of democracy for personal gain and those who perpetrate it deserve to be in stocks in the public square!
But since that is no longer an option, let the people finally demand term limits!
# 11. 4/25/12 7:17 AM by OldVietVet - Rochester, NY
I'd like to see term limits for all State Assemblymen and Senators, as well as a timeclock for them to punch. Like the workingmen that they claim to represent, they should be at their work stations each day if they're to collect their pay.Make 'em be there, make 'em vote, and then, after a limited time, kick 'em out.

I think I'll wait until the political climate in the State and Country is perfect before I dare live my life. I don't care who is in the White House or who my Representatives are anymore (Thanks a lot Jim Alesi). I have decided to only vote on propositions that I feel the need to vote on. The rest of the horrible scam we call representative government can go to "H" "E" "double toothpicks". There is nothing as sad as politicians that find that all the money has evaporated. They become completely useless.

"the oath of office is to the constitution"
I believe everyone entering the military takes an oath to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution. I'd like to suggest that people call the various military recruiters and ask what the hell they're waiting for.
# 15. 4/25/12 8:32 AM by Mike R. - Livonia, NY
Heeeeeeyyyyyy Bob,
I'd approach this one real carefully because, as you know, any politician can drum up the most nutty schemes that can get put into law. All it takes is for some lone wolf to say, "This is a great idea," get everyone to thumbs-up it and we've got who knows what kind of idiocity jammed down our throats. It's sort of like getting married on the first date and then finding out you're hitched to an ex-con axe murderer.
Anytime a politician says he/she has a good idea, I say, "Prove it first." Show me how it works, how it can be messed up or abused and how you prevent and eliminate the mess ups and abuse. 9 times out of 10 they'd probably prove that it's a lousy idea after all.
Yeah, the "bring it to the floor for a quick vote thing" is a good idea, but it also scares the living hell out of me. First, I'd like to know if the axe is being kept out in the shed or under the bed.
Keep writing.

# 17. 4/25/12 9:06 AM by Matt - Rochester, NY
Shame on both sides as usual. That's why we should line item vote everything though ballots. Are we really being represented by those we elect? When that stops being the case, we are no longer a Democracy.
Editor's Note: uh, actually, we never were a democracy. you should have paid attention in social studies class.
# 18. 4/25/12 9:24 AM by Leigh - Rochester, NY
The United States is a Federal Republic, not a Democracy. Too bad schools these days are too busy preaching diversity instead of basic education.
# 19. 4/25/12 9:32 AM by NascarDad - Richmond, VA
Unfortunately it is too common. Even in Virginia, the previous Senate set up "Death Star" committees made up of 3 anti-gun democrats and 1 GOP member, and assigned pro-gun bills to that special committee to die.
And then the Senate Democrats who did that wondered why people didn't care when the Democrats were shut out in forming the new committees this time around.

I have read your colum and listened to you on radio all my life: I have always been a big fan ; Now I have a gripe. I have been a workaholic all my life; I graduated from SUNY Brockport, 1979 with BS in Communications, emphasis in Journalism. I've worked my ass off since I was 12 years old starting as a paperby. I worked my way all the through college, I worked a t 4 supermarkets, I painted summers, I worked construction, I worked at WROC as readio controll technition 6 nights per week my senior year at Brockport, I worked as a reporter/photographer after graduating from college, I worked at 4 restaurants as a waiter during and after college, I sold real estate and new homes for years , I worked as a real estate appraiser covering 12 counties,I worked my other jobs I have'nt even mentioned here. And then at 46 , I believe in 2003, I had a heart attack. I recovered and went to back to work as an appraiser and when the market crashed went to work apartment maintenance. Then I got sick again with heart arrithmia and diabetes in 2008. I spent all my savings to live on because I could hardly walk and could not work. Finally I was forced to do what I said I would never do, apply for disability. I is a minumun amout of money and every day I struggle to try and recover so I can back to work. I hate being sick, I hate being on disability! I pray and work on getting better everday. Diabetes really f's you up. I always resented those on disability and welfare, especially those who are physically healthy and are able to work; especially those who are collecting on disability for what I call "Mental Money", money collected for some imagined mental illness. All I ask when you attack the leach's and despicable trash who needlessly collect public assistance please keep in mind that there are a few like me who worked their arces off before they got sick, spent there life savings and were forced to apply for disability and public assistance after paying into it there whole life. I am still a very loyal fan of your radio show! Thank you for all you do Bob Valerio

we are republic like the People's republic of china or the Union of Soviet socialist republics and we are a police state like them as well except we lead them in having the highest number of our citizens in prison per capita and for the longest time and the worst is that most of the ones here serving the longest sentences are non-violent due to the war on drug addicts which is republican. Utah has no shame in putting a young man in prison for 55 years for a non violent crime. but republicans do not care. oh joy!

Oh I wish you hadn't wrote "to whit".
It just reminds me of the game a few of us were playing the other day thinking of words that ryhmes with Mitt.
Mitt ryhmes with ditz, fits, nits, pits, the S word, the T word, and last but not least zits.
Oops, I forgot, I can now add whit to the list.
As for todays column, Bob, America has become a nation of sissy war games. Everybody has to be at war nowadays. DO NOT cooperate with the enemy! Fight, fight, fight!
If a man socks you in the nose, blow his f'ing head off. If a girl snarls at you because you whistled at her, a snarl is a death threat so blow her head off.
Action! We need action to stagnate. That's the way government works with grid lock.

Ross Perot had at least one thing right: We The PEOPLE should be doing the deciding. That's how it's done in Oregon. The legislators are TRUE part-timers, they have day jobs, they live at home with their families. They select which propositions meet the standards of law, not partisan perogotives and the PEOPLE of Oregon VOTE on each proposition. No marble hallways, no smoke-filled closed rooms, no huge staffs, or fleet of vehichles. Ordinary PEOPLE doing the PEOPLE'S work. I'd vote for THAT in a heartbeat. We in NYS must be as intelligent as Oregonians, aren't we?

That makes sense.

"Social Studies"? What is that? I think everyone should go back to wearing wigs if they are elected. It will be interesting what form of government is decided on once we reach the age of Star Trek and are truly a global society with a global government.

#4 represents what is a huge part of the problem in this country: Blind hatred, first, of anything he disagrees with; second, impressionable followers of the haters who spew their destructive, stupid, almost treasonous blather (Limbaugh, etc.) over the airwaves; and last but not least, racists who will let the country go to hell rather than see Obama accomplish anything, and work together to solve problems that are easily solved if we would collaborate as Americans first.

# 36. 4/25/12 5:03 PM by Poplar Beach
#33 # 4 may be what you say he is, but you may also be delusional (see head up ass)!
When I first heard of Barack Obama (his 2004 DCN speech) I was intrigued, he gave a great speech, he was compelling. When I told a friend who happens to be a democrat that I thought Barack Obama might be a good candidate, he said no experience, no resume, not ready.
My friend was right, 3.5 years of Obama has proved that!
Anyone who can not see that, has blinders on, (see head up ass)!
And, if you insist on blaming it on Bush, please see Bowles / Simpson. The commission Barack Obama appointed to deal with the budget and debt.
Barack Obama ignored them, HIS OWN commission, he had a democratic controlled house and senate at the time, he could have dealt with medicare, medicaid, social security, the debt, and he did absolutely NOTHING!

A day late. A dollar short. (ed?) I enjoyed the column and I agree. Trying not to distort my own perception of lawyers, I see this as a legal maneuver to insure a high conviction rate.(success in politics.) Selective legislation is like selective prosecution a bias by majority of "rulers." I still wish NYS had more referendums by initiative for the people to really vote on something important, like the state's godless economy.
Referendum by direct initiative was one of the good ideas Thomas Golisano had, as an independent, but we know what happened to him. A good man left the state, taxed to near death for being independent. Ross Perot still had it right. (still, has it right). "A GIANT SUCKING CHEST WOUND." where the heartbeat of America used to be.
# 38. 4/26/12 11:36 AM by Some Guy - Rochester, NY
I agree that even the minority party should be afforded the opportunity for an up or down vote on legitimate bills.
But that's where the problem begins, Acts of the legislature, under common law, only apply to the government, not the people, who remain sovereign. It's a concept that the government reacts violently to even when dealing with the most peaceful and non-aggressive people imaginable.
When the government does things outside the scope of its authority, it is not Law.
