A RIDE AT NIGHT IN THE COUNTRY

So, does Utah have recall petition procedures? Even if your not successful, the adverse publicity against her would probably increase the likelihood she would be voted out of office at the next election. If you are successful, she would be gone even faster. What states need is a law, that when an elected member of the bar is recalled from office by the voters, that they are permanently barred from any elective or appointive bar position.

# 2. 2/8/10 1:41 AM by Just Google It
She was appointed Bob, how do you vote against that? P.S. She looks like a Bulldog.

Editor's Note: utah judges face retention elections. utahns don't get to pick their judges, but they do get to decide whether to keep them, arsehole.

# 3. 2/8/10 2:13 AM by Puscifer - Utardia
If Jace or his family had ties to the predominant religion it was business as usual. If not, I understand your anger. You'll get accustomed to it. It's the way things are done here. Another post that won't make your page.

thumbsup.gif It always stuns me how lightly the judicial system treats these horrible crimes. If I lived down there, I would campaign and vote against her.

Utah unseated a judge about 4 years ago I believe.

# 5. 2/8/10 3:53 AM by Rational Rod - CANADA
thumbsdown.gif Okay, my friends I dare you to read today's column and then have a conniption over Rod's negativity. What's the admittedly juvenile "joke" about a woman's name? And why is someone, even a judge, no less, always guilty of "stupidity" if their ruling doesn't agree with Lonsberry's? Just wondering.

# 6. 2/8/10 4:21 AM by Joe Turd
There seems to be some very serious problems in Utah. Inasmuch, there are very serious problems all over the nation, particularly Victor, NY...where a 12y.o. boy had committed multiple rapes, Alabama, a 15y.o. was shot in the head in school. In any event, this is a terrible event where the Judge should step-down.

# 7. 2/8/10 4:56 AM by Pete
thumbsdown.gif Jesus Bob,

Why publish columns like this?

If the people of this Country really understood why the Founding fathers invoked Biblical Principles, laws, statues and ordinances against these kind of crimes, there is no way that scumbags like this would still be walking the streets!

The men who Constitutionally agreed to abide by Biblical Principles were not all religious but yet all they recognized the wisdom reflected in those Biblical principles.

Those who wait in the shadows for no reason other than evil with the intention to violate whether it is murder, rape or some other insidious act should be eliminated from this society and let God sort them out!

If we have roaches in our homes we call in an exterminator to wipe them out! Yet, we give bastards like this leniency who are much more deadly and dangerous than roaches to roam society.

I cannot understand liberal mindsets!

# 8. 2/8/10 6:13 AM
This so-called judge is as much an animal as the males in that truck. It wouldn't suprise me to hear, eventually, that someone is gunning for all of them...............

# 9. 2/8/10 6:25 AM by Rob Staples - Henrico, VA
thumbsup.gif How sad, we don't protect our own. If we don't set a example it will happen again. Who's next, how sad. Our system is not working!

# 10. 2/8/10 7:20 AM by Mario - Brockport
My only comment since I live here in Rochester is that I wonder if that is her married name or her maiden name.

I'm just saying.

# 11. 2/8/10 7:25 AM by Rick G. - Spencerport NY
I don’t understand how this could happen, but I don’t live in Utah or vote for Utah judges. You get what you pay for, I guess. It’s puzzling, though, how a state with both the death penalty and some of the most liberal gun laws in the country can be so light when it comes to sentencing. From the view here in Spencerport, New York, Utah seems like a really tough anti-crime state so I’m wondering if there are extenuating legal circumstances we don’t know about or is this kind of thing a pattern with Judge Laycock?

Anyway, those two girls have fathers or brothers, right? What’s the law in Utah about beating two guys to within an inch of their lives and claiming temporary insanity?

# 12. 2/8/10 7:48 AM
How does a girl sitting between 2 boys in a car get a door open and get away? She doesn't, if the boys are intent on keeping her there.

I appreciate the seriousness of this, but could there be an element of horseplay to it all? One of the boys knew one of the girls is why I think that maybe, and I say maybe, some very foolish horseplay was going on.

If there is a possiblity that that could have been the case then a severe punishment sounds wrong.

If, on the other hand this was a violent sexual attack on a helpless girl then the boys should get severely punished.

It simply sounds suspicious that one of the girls got away from her position wedged between 2 boys in a car.

Editor's Note: why don't you let me horseplay your mother, then we can talk about this more.

# 13. 2/8/10 7:51 AM by #2
You really are a prick.

# 14. 2/8/10 8:10 AM by Lee - Syracuse, UT
It never ceases to amaze me.

As much as Rational Rod Crouch hates you and the column he never misses a chance to leave at least one comment per day, even when he has nothing to say.

Bob, what's it like to own someone so completely?

# 15. 2/8/10 8:11 AM
thumbsup.gif Off topic: I was at a Superbowl party last night with about 20-25 liberals. The subject of Obama came up and one of them had the best line I've heard in a while -- "I voted for Change and that's all I have left."

# 16. 2/8/10 8:18 AM by An ex-pat in Canada - Toronto Ontario
"I appreciate the seriousness of this, but could there be an element of horseplay to it all?" Funny, I don't remember clothes comeing off when I was horseplaying with girls. Admitadly it was a few years ago.

A not to Rational Rod.... Stop makeing Canada look so damned ignorant!

# 17. 2/8/10 8:37 AM by Dante - slc
thumbsup.gif Damn right I'll vote against her. God wold too if he voted.

# 18. 2/8/10 8:44 AM by DD
thumbsdown.gif Both managed to get out of the car? One got back in on her own accord...after being forcibly molested...changing the numbers to 4 to 1 instead of 4 to 2?

Any bruising on the girls? Other signs of a struggle? Any scratch marks on the boys? It must have been a terrible struggle just getting out of that car much less having her clothing forcibly removed in such a small space.

Sorry. There's something being omitted from your story, Bob. Sounds to me like the judge got it right because she had all the facts.

Editor's Note: stupid cops and prosecutors, got it wrong again. thankfully we have clairvoyant judges.

# 19. 2/8/10 9:00 AM by Poplar Beach
Are these boys scum bags, yes, and the oldest, a 20 year old should have been the biggest scum bag, with the least excuses!

I am wondering why the oldest boy got to cut this deal; as I understand the other 3 have yet to see their day in court. If all were equally guilty, I would presume the prosecutor would have tried to get the youngest to turn on the others, perhaps there is more to this story than we are hearing.

# 20. 2/8/10 9:10 AM
thumbsup.gif Laycock - hahaha

# 21. 2/8/10 9:33 AM by Harv - Lehi, UT
thumbsup.gif Unfortunately, this is par for the course for her. It's an embarrassment that she's on the bench at all. It's like she has absolutely no sense on what justice is/should be. There are consequences for actions...or at least should be. If I ever commit a crime here, guaranteed I'm going to do everything I can to get my case before her. Doesn't matter how guilty I am, I won't do any serious time.

# 22. 2/8/10 9:42 AM by Vet '72
To #5, please stay in Canada.

# 23. 2/8/10 9:48 AM by Mike Rosenhan - Kearns, UT
Hey Rod, you mangy mutt, you bring it upon yourself each and every day. We know, from reading your tripe, that you are a direct descendent of Bob and Doug McKenzie. Only difference is, they are funny by intent. You are funny just because you are lacking in basic skills.

I wish I lived in Happy Valley. I'd vote her out in a heart beat. Those boys should all be in prison. Of course you do have to lay some blame on the Prosecutors. Down there in Happy Valley, they are not very assertive. This smacks of "Plea bargain".

# 24. 2/8/10 9:58 AM by Rational Rod - CANADA
#16-ex-pat - 4 spelling errors in 6 lines, and I'm making Canada look ignorant. Illiteracy is so sad. There are many remedial classes here, you know.

# 25. 2/8/10 9:59 AM
I'm new to the area, and finding employment to be very difficult. I have been told by the locals that the area that once was is no longer, and will never be the way it once was.

# 26. 2/8/10 10:09 AM
The only people who are on Facebook who are over the age of 14 are losers who want to know how fat the people they went to high school with really are. Get a freaking life.

# 27. 2/8/10 10:15 AM by alexander - upstate ny usa
clamidia laycock is a fool, letting these boys off with a slap on the wrist is terrible.

but, lets let this be a lesson to our daughters too....

# 28. 2/8/10 10:52 AM by Jolene - Sandy, Utah
Yes I'm on facebook. My opinion even though you didn't ask for that....I can't stand wishes or gifts or farmville or accept this pet, or roses...etc. TMT = too much time on their little keyboard fingers.

# 29. 2/8/10 10:53 AM by Lance - Huntsville, AL
Bob, you'll remember this one: Judge Laycock should remember the name of a now former Utah judge, Leslie Lewis. After Lewis' tirade in open court, she was removed at the very next election cycle. It can be done, but only if people remember.

# 30. 2/8/10 10:58 AM by Jolene
To Number 27...Alex...please retrack the name you wrote. It's CLAUDIA.

Is not one of the people involved last name Holland? Could he be related to the UVU President who's last name is Holland, who is related to a high ranking church guy name Holland? Just a thought. If so, then grandpa ought to kick his butt at the very least.

# 33. 2/8/10 11:23 AM by Wade - Eagle Mountain, UT
thumbsup.gif I tend to vote against all the judges anyway, just because everyone else always votes for all the judges, since no one knows who any of them are. I'll keep this name in mind for next time.

# 34. 2/8/10 12:40 PM by Al Quiam - USSA
Comrade Lonsberry,

I think it is time to develop one of my ideas (that came to me since I have teenage drivers). That idea is called SERIOUS Satalite Image Feed, and what it would entail is a remote camera mounted in the interior roof of the car that would be tied to a transmitter. It would be transmitted to a capture system & to my home computer. That way, I could ensure that no hanky panky's going on while the car's out with "friends". Perhaps a system like this needs to be marketed for all concerned parents....and it would take some of the guess work out of investigations when you hear the fat-cat parents say "My Johnny or Max would never do a thing like that to little Suzie!".

# 35. 2/8/10 12:45 PM by Donald
If our public safety system won't protect the public (for which reason the laws were created in the first place), then what's left but the necktie parties of the old West?

# 36. 2/8/10 1:40 PM by carole - greenwood/florida
I do not live in or near Utah but you can bet that stupid women would not get my vote. DISGUSTING

# 37. 2/8/10 1:51 PM by Tony - Fairport
Say Bob, why are the cops "stupid"? They arrested for the serious felony. The DA and the judge took it down the less serious path. How about just insulting the responsible parties?

Editor's Note: speaking of stupid, how to misread the column. nice work, moron.

# 38. 2/8/10 1:58 PM by DD
Hey, Bob. Is Nick Francesco still on WHAM during the weekends. I haven't heard him in ages. I loved his computer show. Did his time slot move... or is he gone?

Editor's Note: gone

# 39. 2/8/10 2:11 PM by Will - Texas
Right-wing media figures have rushed to defend Sarah Palin from criticism that she apparently wrote "crib notes" on her hand during her Tea Party Convention appearances by claiming, among other things, that it's a "non-issue" and that having notes on her hand was "folksy," "down to earth," and "just like busy moms."

Nope, just someone who can't recall her message without talking points.

Sad.

Editor's Note: how's president teleprompter doing?

Holy crap! Someone taught "Rod" how to count! Only that dipwad could defend this injustice.

I hope it never happens to his & his sister's kids.

# 42. 2/8/10 4:33 PM by Coris - Caselle, UT
Judge Laycock is not the only problem with the Utah courts. She is but one person in a vast corrupt system that is little more than an extortion tool used by the elites to take money away from the states unlucky citizens. Judges main priority is to fine citizens to fill the slave beaurocrats and their own pockets.

# 43. 2/8/10 6:32 PM by Will - Texas

Fine, just like Bush's typed script and Regan's note cards...

Betrayed its master by not phonetically spelling out "corpsman".

He's never watched watched "M*A*S*H"?

"If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal." - Emma Goldman Your comment about a teleprompter that the President has makes me wonder about you Bob? I don't think Pres. Obama is taking this tea party seriously or taking this country in the right direction but Sarah Palin is not a careful person, talking about a revolution and constantly criticizing the President. Who knows what she means by a revolution? Fighting in the streets, new laws? She doesn't choose her words carefully and is igniting what I would call home grown terrorism and people ought not fall under her satanic spell as her husband and her are not what they appear to be. Just like Obama is not what he appears to be neither is she and people need to stop cheering her on. I wonder how much she is milking the public with her tea parties!!

# 46. 2/9/10 6:47 AM by phelpschick - phelps ny
This whole thing could have been prevented had the girls had parents like mine. NO WAY were you allowed to get into a vehicle where the boys outnumbered the girls! In fact, you weren't even allowed to go with a young man unchaperoned. Sounds a little extreme but you can see the reason behind it. Pardon me for being old fashioned but I'd like to see a refreshing return back to the old school ethics.

# 47. 2/9/10 8:41 AM by Snake P
Hey Bob-

Anyone who doesn't get a chuckle when the name "Claudia Laycock" is mentioned (Rod) must be either an idiot or lying. (or maybe both)

However, the fact remains that she is proof that we have fools and incompetents in our legal system. And until we can weed them out we will have rulings such as this.

Snake

thumbsup.gif how likley are we to remember her name when she comes up for re-election?

# 49. 2/12/10 5:06 PM by leeza - Oklahoma City, OK
thumbsup.gif Claudia Laycock should not be a judge, I don't think she can read and if she can she chooses not too. I know of a case that she drag on for years it was so cut and dry,not to mention the defendant purgered himself in the deposition and a contract exsists, that she failed to read, finally went to jury trial, she gave it a few hours of reviewing the same stuff over and over that had no bearings in the case and finally threw it out on a mis-trial. Why was there a jury, if they were not allowed to deliberate, Claudia Laycock needs to be stopped and hope you never have to appear for anything because she does as she pleases. She dosent do what's right someone needs to take a look at her records. Take her crown necklace she wears around her neck to let her male co-workers know she is the queen and put it somewhere else! She puts a bad name on the judicial system.
